Yeah bears ain't exactly smartass wiseguys like Yogi. Just thought I'd bring some senseless savagery and carnage into y'alls weekend. You're welcome! There was just a story in the news today about another handler killed by a "domesticated" bear. I'm sure these people think it'll never happen, but animals are capable of snapping into a mode where the only thing that matters is their survival and not whether they're killing someone who's been nice to them for years. I bet most of us have been holding the family cat when the doorbell suddenly dinged and received life-threatening slashes and puncture wounds. The animal just reacts, and somebody dies. It happened to that French fruit in Vegas, and that wasn't even a real attack. Just a little rough play was enough to pull most of the guy's brain loose from the rest of him. It even happens with the killer whales, they start playing and forget that we humans need to breathe and next thing you know the handler is drowned dead. People need to stop assigning reason and sensibility to these animals for whom instinct is the word of the day.
Another shame in this whole topic is that a domestic animal will almost always be put down after an attack as such. The animal, either captured or born into captivity is broken of spirit to the point where it could not even survive in the wild if released. Then upon a completely natural act of rampage when wiped while being taught to balance on a ball, will be put down.
ReplyDeleteHey Brian, how's it going? Yeah it sucks that some people's carelessness and stupidity ends up costing an animal it's life. By the way that picture isn't from today's news report, just one I found. I think that's Treadwell who fancied himself one with the bears until they decided he was more valuable to them as food than a friend. Bears don't need friends.

ReplyDeleteWell, it's finally the weekend, thank goodness. Think I'll spend it doing a whole lot of nothing. I'm about worn out. I think I need a vacation, somewhere with a nice warm sandy beach & lots of fruity alcoholic beverages. :)
Hey Jen! Good luck on that whole lot of nothing! I think you need to spend the weekend in a nice little place called Amanpulo in the Philippines. You know what they have there? In addition to a whole lot of nothing, they have warm sandy beaches and things like daiquiris, coladas, and of course rumrunners.
